With a size of about 700 square miles, the Palatinate Forest state park is the largest continuous forest area and the most impressive red sandstone landscape in Germany. Together with the northern Vosges range in France this natural treasure has been designated by UNESCO as the first cross-border biosphere reserve in Europe.

The 61 km Palatinate Forest tour takes you from the western edge of the Palatinate Forest south via the Sickingen Heights. Striking river valleys in dense forests and the intense color of the distinctive red sandstone with its wealth of shapes and erosions characterize the course of the trail.
