Pack your Backpack - Let's go to the Palatinate Forest

Kaiserslautern is situated at the edge of the Palatinate Forest and is thus an Eldorado for all hikers. Here is a brief overview of two of the most beautiful trails.

Palatinate Forest Trail - Certified Hiking Trail

Starting point Kaiserslautern. The only Certified Hiking Trail with a direct ICE railroad connection.

 

Day 1
Route: Kaiserslautern - KL-Dansenberg
Distance: approx. 10 km

 

Day 2
Route: KL-Dansenberg - Trippstadt
Distance: approx. 13 km

 

Day 3
Route: Trippstadt - Heltersberg
Distance: approx. 20 km

Barbarossa Hiking Trail

Emperor Frederick Barbarossa stayed in Lautern seven times, held court here and went hunting. Castles in the surrounding area, such as the Hohenecker and Wilensteiner castles, were built to protect his imperial palace. In Hohenecken, you can treat your hike-tested legs to a cooling off in the Gelterswoog.
