Join us for the book launch of Party Transformation in Congressional Primaries. In the course of the evening Dr. Cowburn will show how the congressional nomination process fundamentally changed in the twenty-first century, and examine how these changes have impacted the two parties. Contrary to the popular wisdom that primary elections are a force for polarization in Congress due to the positions of the primary voters, Dr. Cowburn instead shows that primaries impact party identity through the actions of political elites, especially the candidates themselves.
